Weekly Address: Working Together to Extend the Middle Class Tax Cuts
In this week’s address, President Obama urges Congress to act now on one thing that everyone agrees on -- ensuring that taxes don’t go up on 98 percent of all Americans and 97 percent of small businesses at the end of the year. On Friday, the President had a constructive meeting with Congressional leaders on finding ways to reduce our deficit in a way that strengthens our economy and protects our middle class, and he looks forward to working together to get this done.

Let's Get to Work: Last Friday, the President laid out his strategy for finding the right approach to move the country forward. South Asian American community leaders, elected officials, entrepreneurs, Administration officials, and Vice President Biden came together on Tuesday to commemorate the holiday. The President's News Conference: On Wednesday, the President held a news conference to answer questions about his plans for the next four years. He emphasized his commitment to help American families and small businesses get back on track:
I've got a mandate to help middle-class families and families that are working hard to try to get into the middle class. That's my mandate. That's what the American people said. They said: Work really hard to help us. Don't worry about the politics of it; don't worry about the party interests; don't worry about the special interests. Just work really hard to see if you can help us get ahead -- because we're working really hard out here and we're still struggling, a lot of us.

President Obama's New York Visit: On Thursday, the President traveled to New York to assess the storm damage of Hurricane Sandy, and meet with survivors in Staten Island coping with the recovery process. President Obama praised the first responders, volunteers and sanitation workers who are working tirelessly to help residents get back on their feet, saying they exemplify what America is all about:
During difficult times like this, we're reminded that we're bound together and we have to look out for each other. And a lot of the things that seem important, the petty differences melt away, and we focus on what binds us together and that we as Americans are going to stand with each other in their hour of need.
Congressional Leadership at the White House: Today, the President hosted the Democratic and Republican leaders from both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate for talks on the economy—and how to prevent a tax increase on a the middle class. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Speaker John Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell met with the President for more than an hour and emerged optimistic about the potential for agreement. Weekly Address: Extending Middle Class Tax Cuts to Grow the Economy
In his weekly address, President Obama says that it’s time for Congress to pass the middle class tax cuts for 98% of all Americans. Both parties agree that this will give 98% of families and 97% of small businesses the certainty that will lead to growth, and so there is no reason to wait. On Tuesday, the American people voted for compromise and action, and the President calls on Congress to come together in that spirit to help create jobs and strengthen our economy.

Storm Relief Update: On Saturday, the President met with FEMA leaders and Cabinet officers in Washington DC to ensure all those impacted by Hurricane Sandy know that help is available for them. He asked all Americans to spread the word that anyone looking for assistance—from housing to childcare, medicine and other resources—should call 800-621-FEMA. Watch the President’s full remarks here.
Rebuilding Businesses after the Storm: Earlier this week, the Small Business Administration encouraged business owners affected by Hurricane Sandy to apply for SBA disaster assistance. SBA Administrator Karen G. Mills explained, “Getting businesses and communities up and running after a disaster is our highest priority at SBA.” Businesses of any size, as well as homeowners and renters in areas within a disaster declaration (New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut), may be eligible to apply for SBA disaster assistance. FEMA on the Ground: On Tuesday, FEMA personnel continued working alongside state and local partners with disaster response and recovery operations throughout the areas impacted by Hurricane Sandy. They also began preparing additional resources for the Nor’easter storm. FEMA community relations teams started knocking on doors to inform individuals of available financial assistance registration information for financial assistance from FEMA. Department of Transportation Assistance: With hurricane recovery efforts underway, the Department of Transportation is also working with state and local officials to help commuters get where they need to go and ensure families have access to housing and other resources. The Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the American Association of State Highway Officials have combined their efforts to permit carriers moving temporary mobile housing units from Maryland and Alabama to New Jersey. President Obama made a surprise visit to the campaign office in Chicago yesterday to give a heartfelt thank-you to staff and volunteers.
I wanted to pass this video along, because it's a message every single person who helped build this campaign deserves to see. He wasn't just talking to those of us in the office -- he was talking to all of you.
In his speech on Election Night, President Obama gave you all the title you have spent the last year and a half earning:
"The best campaign team and volunteers in the history of politics."
So many times in this election, this campaign was counted out. They said our supporters wouldn't turn out, and we'd never see the kind of voter participation we saw in 2008. They said we'd be buried in money and special-interest influence. And they said that no campaign could overcome the political headwinds we faced.
Last year, a major American newspaper asked, "Is Obama toast?" As recently as two weeks ago, another ran this headline: "Can Obama win?"
Tuesday night, you all answered all of those doubts with a resounding YES WE CAN. By knocking on doors, organizing phone banks, and chipping in a few bucks when you could, you built a campaign that is unparalleled. And you re-elected our president.
You also proved that millions of ordinary people taking ownership of a cause is still the most powerful force in our political process. You showed that grassroots organizing and small donations are not only the right way to win, but also the most effective way.
How we got here must guide where we go. If we're going to accomplish the things America voted for on Tuesday, you've got to be even more involved in getting them done than you were in giving us all the chance.
We'll be in touch soon about how we can get started on some of the President's top priorities in his second term.
For now, I just want to say I am so proud of this team. And I can't wait to see where you take this incredible movement from here.

The first $2,500 from a contributor to Obama Victory Fund 2012 will be allocated to Obama for America, designated for general election debt retirement. The next $30,800 from a contributor will be allocated to the Democratic National Committee. Any additional amount(s) from a contributor will be divided equally among the Florida, Iowa, Pennsylvania, and Virginia State Democratic Party Committees, up to $10,000 per committee and subject to the biennial aggregate limits. A contributor may designate a contribution for a particular participant. This allocation formula may change if following it would result in an excessive contribution or if Obama for America receives sufficient funds to pay its outstanding debts. Contributions will be used in connection with a Federal election, may be spent on any activities of the participants as each committee determines in its sole discretion, and will not be earmarked for any particular candidate.

Medien nahtlos am TV, auf Tablets und im Auto genießen: Ergebnisse des Projekts MIfoP. Unter der Leitung der Fraunhofer ESK erforscht ein Konsortium bestehend aus Audi, der BMW Forschung und Technik GmbH, Loewe, SpaceNet AG und den Forschungsinstituten IRT und Fraunhofer IIS, wie in Zukunft Medien individueller und geräteübergreifend genutzt werden können.
Im Rahmen des BICCnet ist das Sicherheitsnetzwerk München gegründet worden. Bayern und der Großraum München verfügen über die dafür erforderliche kritische Masse an IT-Sicherheitsunternehmen und Forschungseinrichtungen, die bereits erste Verzahnungen aufweisen. Profitieren auch Sie vom neuen Sicherheitsnetzwerk durch Ihre Mitwirkung und gestalten Sie Zukunftsthemen wie die Bildung eines Netzwerkes von Sicherheitsexperten, Entwicklung und Anwendung sicherheitsrelevanter Technologien und die Anbahnung und Durchführung gemeinsamer F&E-Verbundvorhaben.
Im Forschungsprojekt „Smart Micro Grid Information an Control (SMIC)“ wird ein flexibles IT-gestütztes Vorgehensmodell zu einem stufenweisen Auf- bzw. Ausbau eines Mittel- und Niederspannungsverteilnetze erarbeitet. Es werden systematisierte Wege aufgezeigt, regional benötigte elektrische Energie durch intelligente Steuerung möglichst mit regional erzeugter Energie zu decken und gleichzeitig die System- und Netzstabilität zu gewährleisten. Das Ziel des Projektes besteht in der Schaffung einer Kommunikations- und Steuerinfrastruktur für den Betrieb von Smart Micro Grids auf lokaler Ebene. Auf dem BICCtalk stellen sich die Konsortiumspartner vor und geben einen Überblick über ihre technische Kompetenz.
Der BICCnet Arbeitskreis Multicore setzt zum Jahresende einen Höhepunkt: Sie sind herzlich eingeladen zur Führung durch den schnellsten Rechner Europas (Ranking Juni 2012), den
SuperMUC in Garching. Der Direktor des Leibnitz-Rechenzentrums, Prof. Arndt Bode, übernimmt die Einführung in den Superrechner. Nach der Führung durch das "Gehirn" selbst werden wir dann noch über Multicore-Aspekte des SuperComputing diskutieren.

Ziel des Workshops ist es, die Entwicklung und Diskussion zukünftiger Techniken und Methoden zur Entwicklung softwareintensiver eingebetteter Systeme zu fördern, und Best Practices aus der Industrie zu dokumentieren.
